May 18th - 24th bullet Foodie travels in Israel
I'll be heading to Israel to seek out the best food this country can offer - both traditional and contemporary. Hummous and tahina, za'atar and wine, coffee roasters, sheeps testicles and spinal chord - all will be revealed I hope. I'm travelling there with Yotam Ottolenghi, who was born in Jerusalem, with whom I'm teaching a writers course later in the year at Arvon. Yotam promises to take me to the best hummous restaurant in the world and I'm looking forward to that with baited breath. What I'm also interested in on this visit is, is there a sense of Fusion created by any merging of Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jewish cuisines. Has Arab food crossed into this foodie mish-mash as well, in ways other than hummous and falafel. Whatever the outcome, I'm feeling hungry...

March 18th - 20th bullet Sipsmith Pop Up restaurant
The Providores partly relocated to the Sipsmith Distillery near Shepherds Bush to create a fantastic tasting menu over 3 nights with the team from Sipsmith - Sam, Fairfax and master distiller Jared. The 6 course food and spirit dinners were great and most attending had never been to anything like it before. Best matches were the soy, sake and edamame 'risotto' matched with a Black Truffle martini, and a game broth with wagyu game wanton and wild mushrooms that Jared matched with an enoki mushroom jelly shot. Dessert of banana, pecan and Medjool date pudding with cardamom, coconut caramel sauce went especially well with a Lady Grey sour. Look out for some more collaborative events between The Providores and Sipsmith!
